It can be difficult to figure out what material, style, curl, and volume will look best with your eyes and face.

In this article, we go over all the different types of eyelash extensions on the market today so you can choose your favorite.

Keep reading to find out about all the eyelash types, styles, volumes, and more.

Animal Fur Eyelash Extensions

Animal fur eyelash extensions are a popular choice because they are light and natural-looking. These tend to be pricier than synthetic eyelashes, and they do require a little more maintenance. Yet, many love them.

Real Mink Eyelashes

Real mink eyelashes are popular with celebrities. The fur makes them light and fluffy for a dreamy yet natural look. The mink’s lightness makes these lashes last a while compared to other synthetic eyelashes.

Real mink lashes can lose their curl, especially after a shower. You will need to find time to provide your lashes with some extra maintenance if you choose these.

Fox Eyelashes

Fox eyelashes are often reddish since they are made of fox fur. Yet, you can still find them in other colors such as brown, white, and black. Fox fur lashes can be difficult to find since they aren’t widely used.

Like real mink lashes, fox lashes need extra maintenance such as curling.

Sable Eyelashes

Sable eyelashes are made from an animal found in Siberia, Russia, and some parts of Asia. Sable fur is the thinnest eyelash extension material on the market. These extensions look great with natural looks.

They won’t weigh down your natural lashes since they are so lightweight. These are not as widely used as mink, but they do need the same level of maintenance.

Synthetic Types of Eyelash Extensions

Synthetic eyelash extensions are a great option if you are worried about animal cruelty. They also tend to be the most dramatic of all types of eyelash extensions if you prefer that style.

Synthetic Silk Eyelashes

Synthetic silk eyelashes are made from materials made from silk fiber. These eyelashes are thicker than your typical lash which puts them in the mid-weight extension category.

They are great because they hold a curl, they are affordable, and they’re dramatic.

Faux Mink Eyelashes

Faux mink eyelashes look much like the real thing, but they are glossier. They come in many styles so you can find the best one for you. Websites like Lavaa.com have an array of real and faux mink lashes that you can try out.

Faux mink lashes tend to look more dramatic than real mink lashes. Keep that in mind while you are shopping around.

Eyelash Curls

There are five different types of eyelash curls. They are the J, B, C, D, and L-curls.

The J-curl is the most natural of all the curls. It is mostly straight with a slight curve at the end. Your natural lashes, with nothing done to them, most likely have a J-curl.

The B-curl is slightly more dramatic. Many people who like natural lashes opt for this curl. It gives just enough drama to look great but not enough to look glamorous.

The C-curl is not straight at all. It makes a C shape from bottom to top, hence the name. This lash is great for opening the eyes for a slightly more dramatic look than the B-curl.

The D-curl has a very strong curl to it. Your lashes will be visibly curled and dramatic. This curl pairs well with added volume. If your natural lashes have a strong curl, it is wise to use this type.

The L-curl has a flat base then curves straight upward. This type of curl has two uses. The first is for a dramatic look with voluminous lashes on non-hooded eyes.

Its second use is for single eyelids, hooded eyes, or lashes that point straight or downward. This type of lash will look best on these types of eyes and make the eyelashes look fuller.

Eyelash Volume

Eyelash volume is just as important to the look of your lashes as the curl. Volume lashes are relatively new to the eyelash extension types. There are more than 20 options. They are 1D, 2D, 3D, 4D, 5D, and so on.

The different options are self-explanatory. The D indicates a fan per set, and the number refers to the number of lashes in a fan. A 1D would be one lash in each fan. A 2D would be two lashes in each fan and so on.

1D to 4D volume lashes achieve a natural look on most people. 5D to 8D are used for dramatic, fluffy lashes.

Some lash technicians use 10D to 20D lashes for extremely voluminous eyelashes. Yet, these are not sustainable because of their weight. Extra-heavy lashes can cause natural eyelashes to fall out prematurely.

Eyelash Extension Styles

There are five main types of styles for eyelash extensions. Yet, some eyelash technicians have come up with styles that are not widely used. Talk to your lash tech about the styles they think would look good on you.

The five widely used types are natural, open, doll, squirrel, and cat. Each style can use a different amount of volume to look more or less dramatic.

You should keep in mind some styles are meant to pair well with certain volumes and curls. The natural style looks great with a J, B, or C-curl and a volume of 2D to 4D.

Alternatively, the doll style can look great with several different curls and volumes. Your lash technician can suggest many different combinations of styles, curls, and volumes to fit your face.
