Almost every woman dreams of having beautiful eyelashes. Growing them is a bit easier said than done. Like with your hair, it takes a while to get the lashes you want.

You’ll need to use a mixture of products and beauty techniques to get things going. It sounds strange, but even combing your lashes like your normal hair will help you grow eyelashes.

Many people will put on falsies to cast the illusion that they have fuller lashes. That can do more harm than good, however. You’ve also got to remember to take your makeup off every single night.

These are only a few things to keep in mind. Check out this guide to learn how to jumpstart your beauty routine and grow the long eyelashes you’ve always wanted.

Comb Your Lashes

Yes, we know that it’s strange, but combing your lashes can actually promote their growth by stimulating blood flow through the follicles. It will untangle your lashes, which will prevent them from falling out when you apply mascara or take your lash curler to them.

Brushing can remove the dirt and debris that weigh down your lashes and cause them to break. The question is, how do you go about it?

Do you take a regular comb to them? The answer is no. Trying to brush your lashes with the same comb you use on your head would be difficult and silly.

Instead, buy a few disposable mascara brushes and use them at least twice a day. That will be enough to help you grow thicker eyelashes.

Use Castor Oil

Castor oil contains a high amount of a substance known as ricinoleic acid. It can help out with hair loss, so using it on your lashes can make them fuller.

It could also dry them out if you’re not careful. Always talk to your dermatologist before you use the stuff. If you get the okay, cleanse your eyelashes using water and a mild cleanser.

Pat them dry before measuring out a single teaspoon of castor oil. Dip a cotton ball in the oil and apply it to the tops and bottoms of your lashes. Be careful not to get it in your eyes, or you’re going to have a bad time.

Keep the castor oil on your lashes overnight and rinse it off when you get up in the morning. After going through this process every night, you should experience noticeable results within a few weeks.

Remove Your Makeup

We know that it’s been a long day. All you want to do is collapse on your bed and fall asleep. There’s one last thing that you need to do before you shut your eyes, however.

That thing is to wipe off your makeup. Leaving mascara on your eyes overnight is bad news for your lashes. They may stiffen up and break off as you toss and turn.

Vitamin E Oil

Vitamin E acts as an antioxidant that can protect your lashes from damage. It contains certain compounds that can assist you in growing additional eyelashes.

Vitamin E oil can also condition the lashes you do have and make them healthier. You can apply the oil to your lash line every night using a q-tip. For extra growth, combine vitamin E with castor oil.

If you don’t like the idea of putting something near your eyes, you can take vitamin E as a supplement instead. Make sure you talk to your doctor before you proceed. They’ll help you figure out the proper dosage that you need.

Coconut Oil

When you apply coconut oil to your eyelashes, it will dig in deep to replenish the proteins that the follicles need to grow. It can also repair damaged lashes and restore them to their former glory.

You do have to be careful with coconut oil, however. It’s all about moderation. If you apply too much, it can leave behind an oily substance that will weigh your lashes down and break them.

The instructions for applying coconut oil are pretty similar to castor oil. Cleanse your lashes and pat them dry before you put the oil on your upper and lower lids. Leave it on overnight and wash it off the next morning for the best results.

Lash Conditioners

You should use Revitalash Advanced Eyelash Conditioner for the same reason why you condition the hair on your head. It softens the hairs and makes them less prone to breakage.

To get the most out of your product, apply it at night after you’ve cleansed your lashes. It will help break down some of the oils that come with mascara, which is good news for makeup wearers everywhere.

Keep in mind that the skin around your eyes is pretty sensitive. If you notice any burning or redness after using your eyelash conditioner, take it off and stop using it immediately.

If you can’t find a product that works for you, it’s possible to make your own conditioner. All you need to get started is aloe vera and castor oil.

Green Tea

Green tea is delicious, and it can help you grow beautiful eyelashes. It contains plant compounds that can stimulate hair follicles. You can get all the benefits by drinking the tea, or you can apply it directly to the lashes themselves.

Brew a cup of tea and wait for the liquid to get lukewarm. Once you can comfortably touch the cup, dip a few cotton balls into the tea and place them on your closed eyelids for about five minutes.

Doing this routine once a day won’t only grow your lashes. The rich antioxidants found in the tea can also help you lose those dark circles.

Massage Your Eyelids

Massaging your eyelids can stimulate your hair follicles and help your lashes grow. It’s not too hard to incorporate it into your routine. You can massage while you remove your makeup at night.

Remember that the idea is to gently massage your lids. If you’re too rough, you’ll rip your lashes out. Try to avoid pulling and tugging if you can.

Eat the Right Foods

One of the easiest things you can do for eyelash care is to change up your diet. Fresh fruits and veggies contain a ton of vitamins and minerals that are crucial for healthy hair and lashes.

The protein found in fish and eggs can help with growth as well. Collagen provides the building blocks that your lashes need for proper growth.

Omega-3 fatty acids have been known to help people and animals obtain a healthy head of hair. It could also work for your eyelashes.

Olive Oil

If you can’t get your hands on castor oil, olive oil will work just as well. It’s a nourishing substance that contains fatty acids and minerals that can condition your lashes and thicken them up. It’s pretty effective for getting makeup off as well.

Applying a few drops of the oil to your eyelashes every night before bed will have you seeing results within a few weeks. You don’t want to use too much or it could weigh down your lashes, though.

Remove any extra oil with warm water. Leave the rest on your eyes for 5-10 minutes before washing it off. You can also leave it on overnight if you want.

Lemon Peel Oil

There hasn’t been much study done on the effectiveness of lemon peel oil for healthy lashes, but it’s worth a try. It could get rid of eyelash mites and promote growth.

You can make a mixture that contains lemon peel oil and either coconut oil or olive oil. Grab a small jar and place the lemon peels in it before adding a few drops of the other oil.

Press the peels against the side of the jar to extract the oil from them. Let the mixture sit overnight before you apply it to your eyelids. You can let the oil sit on your lids overnight or remove it after a few hours.

Coconut Milk

Coconut milk is a staple in many kitchen recipes. It’s also not a bad ingredient in beauty products. It contains a lot of fats and proteins that can condition your eyelashes and make them strong.

Grab a few cotton balls and let them soak in the coconut milk for a few seconds before you place them on your closed eyelids. Let them sit there for around 15 minutes before you remove them. Rinse your lashes off with cold water when you’re done.

Vaseline

Vaseline can moisturize your lashes and get rid of the mites that damage them. The product might not be able to help much with growth, but it’s still worth using.

Use a cotton swab to put the vaseline on your top and bottom lids. Leave it on overnight and rinse it off the next morning. Make sure that you don’t get it in your eyes as you go through your routine.

Biotin Supplements

If you’re deficient in biotin, it can make the hair on your scalp fall out as well as your eyebrows and lashes. You can prevent this problem by taking a supplement.

Before you head to the store and choose a product, talk to your doctor. They’ll make vitamin suggestions and give you helpful dosing instructions that will prevent you from overdoing it.

Taking the supplements alone won’t do much good. You’ll need to make some lifestyle changes too. Take up a new diet, cleanse your lashes every day, stay away from makeup that will cause unpleasant irritation, and pump the breaks on the lash extensions.

Shea Butter

Shea butter is full of vitamin C. It’s a powerful substance that can promote collagen growth and prevent the damage that comes from free radicals.

To make it work, put a bit of shea butter between your fingers and rub them together until it melts. Apply the substance to your upper and lower lids and leave it there overnight.

No Waterproof Mascara

Waterproof mascara is super long-lasting. You can take a dip in a pool, go out on a rainy day without an umbrella, or cry during a sad movie without your makeup running.

The problem is that waterproof mascara can dry out your lashes. If you use it every day, it can make your eyelashes grow brittle and break off.

If you can’t go without your mascara, follow it up with an oil-based eyelash serum. That will help replenish the moisture that your makeup zaps out.

Avoid False Lashes

If you need long lashes in a pinch, you can apply false ones. They’re the perfect thing to add some oomph to your evening look, but you shouldn’t wear them every single day.

When you remove them, they can take a few of your lashes with them. It’s also not that easy to get rid of the lash glue. Not completely anyway.

You’re likely to leave behind residue that can irritate your eyes. It’s no different than leaving your makeup on overnight.

Be Careful With Curling

You can curl your lashes before applying mascara to make them look longer, but you’ve got to be careful. If you’re too rough on your poor delicate lashes, you can break them off.

You also have to clean your curler before each use. If there’s any product on it, your eyelashes will stick to the curler and get pulled out.
