Most enthusiasts know of the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14R as one of the most powerful bikes around, and was first launched back in 2006. It was one of the top contenders in the top speed war among other Japanese bike makers in the 1990s. These manufacturers pushed the boundaries beyond the litre-class category to come up with bikes like the Suzuki Hayabusa and Kawasaki ZX-12R, the latter of which was the most powerful bike at the time. Bikes like these have always been lusted after, and the Ninja ZX-14R is one of them.

Engine

Packed neatly within the frame is a 1441cc, four-cylinder engine that produces 197.30bhp and 158.20Nm of torque. The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14R is BSIV-compliant.

Specifications

The Ninja ZX-14R is one massive looking motorcycle to behold. The front fairing has a tidy appearance to it, and the dual-tone colour theme has it stand out from other bikes while the dual exhausts get a black, matte finish. It gets an air-intake up-front and a four-fin design on the sides. The quad-headlamp layout still remains, while the tail section will not be to everyone’s taste. But you’ll notice clear lens indicators and a tail lamp. The fuel tank is huge and wide but somehow matches the overall stance of the bike. The instrument console is tidy and compact. There’s an LCD display in between both the analogue dials for the speedometer and tachometer. The display features engine temperature, traction control levels, power modes and a gear position indicator. In terms of dimensions, the Ninja ZX-14R is 2170mm in length, 770mm in width and 1480mm in height. There’s enough of torque in the rev range, making the bike very practical for city riding. Power delivery isn’t particularly jaw-dropping, and the throttle response is nice and smooth and you can feel the gradual increase in power as you progress through the rev-range. Response is smooth in the low-range, and when you open the throttle, the traction control kicks in, keeping the rear in check. At 269kgs, the bike’s weight is manageable. The ground clearance, on the other hand, is 125mm, while the bike has a wheelbase of 1480mm and a seat height of 800mm.

Mileage

The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14R has a fuel tank capacity of 22 litres. In terms of mileage, the bike is capable of returning 12kmpl by ARAI, in BSIV guise.

Mechanical Parts

The first thing one notices is its massive dimensions. The handlebar is a pretty far reach from the seat and is wide with the clip-ons and surprisingly does not feel uncomfortable. The seat is well cushioned and you can crouch down completely, with your chest on the fuel tank. Due to its long wheelbase and heft, the bike doesn’t excel around corners. The bike is stable in a straight line and is planted around long bends as well. There are no vibrations from the engine, and the wind blast isn’t much, thanks to the windshield. However, the bike is difficult to ride in traffic because of its girth. At the front, the bike rides on inverted forks, while the rear gets an Ohlins TTX39 shock-absorber. As far as the chassis is concerned, it is built around a monocoque frame. The Ninja ZX-14R runs on 120/70 ZR-17 tyres at the front and 190/50 ZR-17 tyres at the rear.

Features

The bike comes loaded with a slew of features like traction control, ABS, LED tail light, pass light switch, digital trip meter, engine kill switch, analogue and digital instrument cluster.

Colours

The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14R is available in a single shade like Golden Blazed Green/Metallic Spark Black. Golden Blazed Green/Metallic Spark Black is certainly a colour that is bound to be a favourite among young riders.
